Energy Descent Action Plan

The historical context for a West Marin energy descent action plan is found here in West Marin Visions: community meetings where visions for the future were discussed, held in early 2008. Follow West Marin’s original thoughts in the following two summaries.

1. West Marin Visions: A Community Conversation, A Peak into the Future, 2.28.08: photos and summaries of West Marin’s vision for 2033.
2. West Marin Visions: The Conversation Continues, 4.7.08: photos and summaries of West Marin’s vision continued.

In Rob Hopkins’ outline of a 12-step program for the Transition process, number 12, the creation of the EDAP, was to be the summation of all the working groups’ efforts in specific areas such as food, energy, transportation, economy, waste, water, education, youth and governance.

The EDAP sets out a vision of a desired future and then “backcasts,” that is, creates a series of steps leading to that end result. Creation of an EDAP has a 10-step process.

Here is a basic explanation of what an energy descent action plan is:  Energy Descent Action Plans- a primer. Published on Energy Bulletin, June 7, 2006;
